German Verb Separation: Lost in Translation

Hello!

Has anyone noticed that the translation doesn’t work with German verb separation? So there will be a verb like aussehen, that means “to appear, to seem”, but since when it’s conjugated you find it like this: “er sieht aus”, the translation will be “he saw” and not “he appeared/seemed”.

The in-built translator generally doesn’t take context into account, since it tells me that weiß always means white, even when ich weiß = I know.

Would it be possible to fix this?

There are two recent experimental features that can help with German separable verbs:

  1. Context-aware translations: New experimental feature! ChatGPT context-aware translations
  2. Ask AI: Ask AI: custom ChatGPT prompt feature for premium users (experimental) - you can use a custom prompt, for example “Is this part of a separable verb? If so, write the whole verb together”

Let me know if you find these useful!
