Extra field on flashcards

Hi
Can we have an extra field like Note/Remarks on a flahcard, which holds synonyms, antonyms, derived words, mnemonics, etc. for reference?
thank you

There’s already a field to add synonyms. But I take your point that a general purpose notes field could be handy too.

Yes - upvote from me! For example I’ve just created flashcards for “bene” and “buono” in Italian. I’ve populated Italian phrase “context” fields to help my learning. But I really really really want to make an english note on each flashcard. One to say that “bene does not change with gender and number”, and anotther to say that “buono does change depending on gender and number”

This is just one example where I think (daily) how I wish I could note down some odd grammar quirk or rule. It could even extend to maybe having a little (i) or “note” symbol on the flashcard perhaps which you could hover over or click to see the note. I’m currently keeping a separate google doc with some of them.

On my Anki flashcards I like to have an extra context field available for each review direction. In this extra field I provide additional context to disambiguate the desired response.

For example, I might have English ↔ Italian flashcards where the English phrase includes “a lot” or “very”, which could easily be something with a form of “molto”, or a form of “tanto”. If the card uses a form of tanto, I might put something like: “[not using: molto]” in the extra context field for the English → Italian card so that for my answer I use a form of tanto, not molto. It’s not perfect, but over many years I’ve found this works well for me.

Another example would be to disambiguate an apparent Italian third-person singular verb phrase to instead be translated as second person formal (or to disamiguate the gender of the subject).

In readlang I currently just add another “translation” and put my context hint there.

This is a different use case than wanting general notes, but maybe one implementation could support multiple use cases.

Please check out the new notes feature You can now add notes to words and phrases and leave a comment there letting me know what you think.
