YouTube movies on Readlang?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to add movies from YouTube?

Readlang has a 10,000 word limit on YouTube video transcripts at the moment, which may prevent you from adding many movies.

Also if you’re taking about copyrighted movies with DRM (digital rights management) which you have paid YouTube to watch, I’m almost certain these won’t work on Readlang. Couldn’t find Google documentation confirming this, but GPT-4o certainly thinks it’s not possible, saying “No, you cannot use the YouTube IFrame API to play a copyrighted movie you’ve purchased or rented on YouTube, even if you’ve paid for it” followed by reasons including that “the iframe API is not designed to handle DRM-protected content playback”.

Yeah, I was asking about purchased movies. It’s a shame we can’t add them, but it’s no big deal.

Where does the 10000 word limit come from?

The exact number is arbitrary, but the limit is there to avoid issues which might crop up loading very long texts without pagination into the reading interface which wasn’t designed with that in mind. (Potential issues include slowness loading and navigating the content and crashes due to the browser tab running out of memory)
