What’s the difference between “beta” and regular languages in Readlang’s reader?

Hi everyone,

I noticed while browsing through the language selection in Readlang, that some languages are marked as “beta”, while others are not. Does anyone know exactly what the difference is in terms of functionality?

For example:
• Do beta languages have reduced or experimental support?
• Are there limitations in the reader (e.g., translations, dictionary integration, audio, or highlighting features)?
• Are the translations less reliable or crowdsourced in some way?
• And how does a language eventually graduate from “beta” to “full” status?

Any clarification would be appreciated! I’m trying to decide which languages I can work with most effectively, and this distinction would really help.

Good question!

I checked and noticed that some languages were being marked as “beta” in some of the dropdowns for reasons which no longer make sense, so I’ve removed those “beta” labels.

One of the differences between the languages that isn’t immediately obvious is the use of word frequency lists for certain languages which are used to prioritize the vocabulary you learn in the Practice section. Another difference is the support of TTS voices for Speaking Mode. You can check which languages have these features here: Readlang languages.
