For a few months I’d say it’s been the case for me that trying to switch the “I’m learning ______” dropdown to another language frequently doesn’t work on the first try. I’m not sure what causes it, but it always works on a second try, done immediately after the first.
The language name switches to the desired one, but then switches back in less than a second, redisplaying the tab you were looking at so it feels like the switch was successful, until you look at the top of the screen.
That is very strange. I switch quite often and have never noticed that. I’m testing right now and can’t reproduce it. Which page/tab are you on when you get this problem? What device and browser are you using?
Usually Library. I just did a test now that produed it: I was in Hungarian, where I had done nothing, and tried to switch to Cantonese, which pretended to work for a second (in regard to the dropdown) but then went back to Hungarian and reloaded the tab as Hungarian. So actually I am probably wrong in thinking that the second try always works, it’s just that the odds of it working on a second try are high, because more often than not it DOES work correctly.
I’m on Chrome, Windows 11, I’ll try it in a bit with the phone app.
The same has been happening to me (usually on Edge, in Android, but also on Chrome in Windows 10), also in the Library section. I change language and it immediately jumps back to the previous one. As M_C says, it always works on the second try.
Unfortunately, I don’ t always notice this has happened, which has quite often meant that after uploading a text I find that it’s in the wrong language collection, although it’s not a huge hassle to copy and paste into the correct one.
I’d say it’s been happening for about three months. At first I thought it was my own clumsiness, or something to do with the Edge Android app, but when I discovered that it was happening on the PC, I began to “hae me doots”. But I’d sort of got used to it, and so didn’t report it.
Apart from that, thanks so much for making this my favourite app.
I’ve tried reproducing this bug and couldn’t manage. During my investigation I did notice a couple of pages where “language change” events were getting subscribed to but not unsubscribed from, which could potentially cause temperamental issues like the one you are describing, although I couldn’t actually reproduce the bug myself. Anyway, I’ve fixed those issues I found in the code so there’s a chance that this might have fixed the bug you are getting. Please refresh any Readlang tab you might have open, and if this problem persists after that, please let me know.
Almost always My Texts. I’m starting to wonder if maybe I can get it to be predictable. Switch to a language, go do something else in another tab for 10 (?) min, go back to the tab and switch languages. Can anything happen when time is just passing?
edit, after realizing I should probably should have shown the second try succeeding. Though a few minutes had passed since I posted the clip, I went back and tried to switch to Czech a second time and it DIDN’T work. So it’s not true that second try always works. A third try, done immediately, did work though.
