I suggest that besides the three already available auto-highlight options, I’d like to be able to auto-highlight the word if and only if that particular context has already been added to the flashcard.
I guess there is some choice whether “that particular context” means “that exact phrasing of the context” or “the pair of exact phrasing of the context and the source text identifier”; should “good” be highlighted whenever it appears in “Good morning!” after I highlight that phrase once, or should it be highlighted just in the texts where I’ve added it at least once? I think I’d prefer highlighting it only in texts in which I’ve “investigated” the word by clicking it.
The usecase behind my request was this: I like to add multiple sample contexts to my flashcards, and I often re-read the same text and add even more contexts to even more flashcards on the second reading. Which means that in some cases, I’m not so sure whether I’ve already added a context or not.
So what would be really useful to me would be this:
indicate whether the context which appears in the text also already appears on the flashcard (so that I don’t have to click many words in the text just to test that the context has already been added to the card)
in the settings, allow me to switch on automatic addition of all contexts, not just the first one when the flashcard is created (I’d rather manually delete the few contexts that are added when I would have been happy with just being reminded of the translation than having to always click the “Add This Context” button; also, I don’t completely see why the first context in which I encounter a word should be priviledged among all the others).
To clarify, which would you prefer between these two options:
An option to only highlight words/phrases where the context matches as in your original post
Some other way to indicate whether the context matches as mentioned in your second post
(1) seems easier since there are no new UI decisions to make, and also if you clicked on a non-highlighted word then the new context would be added, meaning that the “automatic addition of context” setting would no longer be needed.
