Reading streak counter not working with Japanese

The reading streak counter has been working great for quite a long time. I took a little break for a few weeks and came back though, and now reading doesn’t add anything, and the little chart below doesn’t include any data, like I hadn’t done any reading for the last week.

Switching over to German though, it works fine. Presumably there was a change in how reading progress is calculated that’s not working with Japanese. Would it be possible to restore the previous way of counting for Japanese only, or do something to get the new calculation to measure progress? I know it’s not officially a supported language, but it’d be cool to have previously working functionality restored. I know it’s not the most important thing and I’ll continue using the site regardless, but it was a cool little feature that did help with encouraging consistency.

Really appreciate the killer tool, thanks for coming back to support it again!

Sorry about that. It should be working again now. Note that for Japanese and other languages which don’t have easily detectable word boundaries, I’m using the very crude assumption that 2 characters is equivalent to 1 word for the purposes of the “words read” metric.

Woah, you’re like the most responsive developer on anything I use, that’s epic. Thanks for the hilariously quick fix. If only helldiver’s 2 moved so fast, haha.

Thanks Steve, really appreciate it!
