Providing UK and Irish national language accents

Hi Steve, the premium UK English accents provided are all varieties southern UK English, but don´t include Scottish, Welsh or Irish accents. Educated accents from these countries are often clearer than southern UK English (e.g. pronuncing every “R” sound (Rhoticity), using pure vowels rather than dipthongs, preserving the “wh” distinction from “w”, tapped and trilled consonants for better word separation, shorter vowels - which are easier for many other nationalities). They are certainly more melliflous. Could you look into making them avaialble?

@Academia_Native It looks like with Update to Readlang’s voices there are two Irish voices available: Emily and Connor. Still none for Wales or Scotland AFAICT. :person_shrugging:

Thanks for the suggestion.

Irish English is already available: Emily (Ireland) and Connor (Ireland) are in the list of high quality voices. To use them, go to Settings, scroll to “English Voices” and click “Change…” next to Read Aloud or Auto-Pronounce. They sit below the UK, Australian and Canadian voices, and you can preview each one with the play button.

Scottish and Welsh accents aren’t something I can add at the moment. The high quality voices come from Microsoft Azure, and every UK English voice they offer is southern British. There’s no Scottish or Welsh accented English voice in their catalogue.

Welsh and Irish are both available as learning languages in their own right, each with a pair of native voices, if that’s of any use.
