When practicing vocabulary, I would prefer to see the infinitive form, not just the conjugated version from the text, because I’d rather remember and internalise the base word, not just a context-specific variation.
Is there a way to do this now?
I think it’s super useful to learn words in context. However, seeing the infinitive form also helps me apply the meaning across different grammatical forms of the word.
Basically it would require specialized support for each language. I’ve used the tools I mentioned in that thread successfully for Russian and Finnish but whether it’s possible to develop such a feature for all languages Readlang supports is another story, of course.
Thanks for the link. The tools you mention sit outside Readlang, right? Like spacy.io
Agree, I’m sure that it’s a product challenge to suit all languages. From a user perspective, the need is straightforward. If I add the word “читаю” (“I read”) to my list, I’d also want to learn the infinitive version “читать” (“to read”), and practice with this infinitive.
At the same time, I also appreciate practicing on the context-specific variations of the word (when it’s already adapted to the tense etc), as it’s more realistic.
Anyway, this gap is not a deal-breaker, because right now I regularly use the in-built free text AI feature to find out more about the root word. (Love that feature.)
