I usually use Context Aware translations because they are actually “better” as is claimed, especially for certain languages. However, the promise of context awareness is more trouble than it’s worth in my experience, creating a bunch of clutter in the entry:
- multiple definitions that differ only in case, or other minor differences in the English
- definitions where the meaning of two adjacent words together gets assigned to the single word clicked
- similarly, definitions that are reversed in meaning because the word was negated in context. (For example, if the text says “not available,” and you click “available,” the AI may report this as meaning “unavailable” because in context it is actually unavailable.)
So my idea would be an option where one can still use Context Aware translations, but if a selected word already has an English gloss, it should not seek another one.
