I was making use of the Language Reactor extension to assist with subtitles in Netflix.
If I were to copy/paste the French subtitles from an episode of a Netflix show into ReadLang, would I be able to make that Public Use?
[These french subtitles being the transcription matching-up with the french dubbing, and not a machine translation.]
On a side note, I was thinking that since we can only sync YouTube videos to ReadLang (and not Netflix), I could maybe find some random half-hour YouTube video, mute it, then separately & simultaneously play the Netflix episode while syncing the ReadLang transcript to the show. That’s a lot of work though
I very much doubt that that would be OK. I would assume that Netflix have the copyright.
That does sounds quite awkward!
Sorry that Readlang doesn’t support Netflix in this way, but copyright does make this kind of thing difficult. Maybe adapting the Readlang browser extension to work like Language Reactor on the Netflix website could work but it would be a lot of work and I’d worry that Netflix could decide to stop it from working at any moment.
Actually, there is an extension that does exactly what you want. It’s called Ejoy English. t’s like Readlang, but for YouTube/ Netflix, allowing you to add vocabulary on-the-fly.
