Hello all,
I’m here for a few languages, including Māori. The caveat here is that Māori is a ‘small’ language, so it is notoriously difficult to find high-quality resources.
What I’ve noticed here are two issues:
- The transcription of audio is pretty bad, to the point where it’s not really usable. I tried a couple of different files, with both of the GPT models, and in both cases, it just ignored large volumes of speech, and mis-transcribed so many words it wasn’t really worth going through and correcting it.
- The default font on the website messes up the macrons, which are important in Māori (e.g., ā vs. a). E.g., this snip is from an AI-generated beginner biography - the text is actually pretty good, so far as I can tell, but the macrons are displaced. The reader itself is 100% Ok - many of the fonts work well, but the website default causes some issues.
(believe it should read “pūrākau mō te pūtaiao”)
None of this is to say I’m not impressed! I went straight for Premium, and I’ve been telling anyone who listens that this is the place to be rather than LingQ
