IPA transcriptions

Would it be possible to add an option in order to display Phonetic transcription of single words when translated? This feature wouldn’t replace the translation, but accompany it instead. The idea is to show translation and IPA transcriptions together.

Thank you for all the upgrades made recently on the platform, Readlang is just getting even better.

Are you thinking of that for Breton? I just tried using “Ask AI” to see if it could give me IPA. (I’m only on Premium though.) Results were respectable, though for Somali it consistently rendered “C” as an English “ch” sound instead of a pharyngeal fricative (i.e. way back in the throat).

I wanted for several languages, I guess it wouldn’t be that difficult to add that function. I guess the transcriptions are not great for minority languages.

I would love that for Persian, although I would prefer a romanization instead of IPA transcriptions for ease of use.

I sometimes use Ask AI to get one and so far the results seemed quite good. A lot better than the audio version of the word, since that doesn’t seem to take the context into account and thus tends to mix up words with identical spelling.

The easiest way to do this could be by adding it to the prompt so that each explanation contains a transcription automatically (if applicable) without having to trigger another AI request.

Under Settings, you can specify a “Custom Dictionary” that shows IPA. Then, when you highlight a word or phrase and you click “Dictionary” in the upper right (tabs), your dictionary with the IPA pops up. For example, for French I am using Wiktionary, which shows IPA.
