How to import words we already know

I noticed that there is no way to import a list of words we already know. Given the way RL works, it might not actually be a benefit to be able to do so? RL does not use syntax highlighting of unknown words for one thing.

Actually it does look like RL supports auto-highlighting of words. I just found a setting in the reader customization. It says to highlight “Ready to Learn” or “All your words”. Which words are the former? Those I can see under “Learning” or “Scheduled” on the word list page, perhaps? What is the supposed benefit of highlighting those words?

The only benefit I can think of with highlighting would be to highlight, or rather, make less noticeable, those words which I am unlikely to know and ought not to bother looking up because they are too rarely used relative to my current language level. Like, I could still look them up if the whole sentence or more hinges on me understanding this word, but if the meaning is already clear, then I would know not to bother.

“Ready to Learn” would be all words which are “Scheduled” plus all words which are “Not Started”. This is the same set of words which are pulled from when you do a flashcards practice session. The idea behind showing these words is that it gives you a chance to update the SRS algorithm with the “I remembered” button as you are reading.

To be honest, I don’t use this highlighting myself. I added it due to user requests on the old feedback forum. I personally prefer a cleaner UI while I’m reading.

Hi Steve, as far as I can tell the highlighting of “Ready to learn” and “All your words” doesn’t seem to be available within the web reader. Am I missing where this can be done, or is this something that you would consider adding?

Additionally, I would find it helpful to have words that are “Ready to learn” and “Already learned” to be marked in different colours, with the ability to marked already learned words as forgotten if I see them in context and don’t understand - leading to the word being re-queued for flashcard learning or decreasing the interval for review.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s true that this isn’t available on the Web Reader, which has fallen behind in terms of features compared to the main readlang.com reader page. To be honest, I am more likely to add the Explain feature to Web Reader before the Auto-Highlighting, but I don’t want to make any promises right now.

I like the idea of different color highlights for “ready” vs “already learned”, but again, no promises for the moment.
