Hi. I really, really like the new transcription from mp3 feature, which makes Readlang almost perfect for me. However, I found the moving cursor rather distracting, so I started listening from a different device, i.e. reading the text on Readlang on my PC while using the podcast/mp3 player on my phone.
Doing this, I realised I didn’t need to keep the mp3s on Readlang at all, so I started copying the text to a new upload, without audio, and deleting the text with audio.
I found this really useful for YouTube videos where there’s no language support for transcriptions, such as Catalan. I would record the video sound on Audacity, upload the mp3 to Readlang, copy the transcribed text to Google Drive, divide it into chunks, upload the text to Readlang, with the video link, while deleting the first upload with the audio. This was really useful.
Deleting the uploads wih audio doesn’t, however, seem to have deleted the actual audio files, as now when I try to upload an mp3, it shows that I have used 197mb out of my 200mb, even though I’ve deleted all the audio uploads. Or perhaps I’ve misunderstood the conditions, and there’s some sort of time limit.
So, is there something else I should be doing to delete the audio files, or does the 200mb limit refer to actual uploads (even when deleted), rather than to the mp3s stored on Readlang’s server?
After selecting the texts and selecting the “Permanently Delete Texts” option, it should also delete the attached audio file and free up your audio storage allowance.
Please let me know if anything isn’t working as expected.
Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Everything’s worked as you said and I got all my 200 mb’s worth back. Just to make sure I uploaded another, which was accepted OK.
Just to say that it works a treat on all the languages I’ve tried (all European). This addition has made me a really happy bunny!
I would like to say how much I already liked Readlang, and that going Pro has been well worth it. And this new feature just makes it perfect for me.
Does deleting a text also delete its saved words from the word list?
Once I’ve read and listened to a text and highlighted unknown words, I probably won’t need to keep the audio anymore, but I don’t necessarily want to lose the words I’ve highlighted.
If deleting a text also deletes saved words, could I make a feature request for being able to delete the audio from a text without deleting the text itself? Or perhaps when you archive a text there could be an option to remove the audio?
Deleting a text doesn’t delete your saved words from that text. The words and their context sentences will be retained. Although the link to the original source text will obviously no longer be there since the source text no longer exists.
