Hey everyone, I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind lately. I’ve been diving deeper into Stephen Krashen’s idea of Comprehensible Input, and the more I learn, the more convinced I become that this is the real key to language learning.
It’s not about drilling grammar or memorizing endless lists of verbs. It’s about being exposed to meaningful content — things you almost understand, but not quite. That slight uncertainty forces your brain to fill in the gaps, and over time, those little “ah, now that word makes sense” moments start to pile up. It’s actually pretty amazing how powerful inference can be when you give your mind the chance.
One thing I’ve noticed is that if the content is too hard, I get frustrated. My brain kind of shuts down, maybe that’s the cortisol effect people talk about. But when the input is engaging — a story I like, or an article on a topic I’m genuinely interested in — it feels effortless. You don’t even realize you’re learning. I think Krashen was absolutely right when he said that pleasure and interest are not just nice extras, they’re essential to acquisition.
For me, Readlang has been the most useful tool for this kind of learning. I use it every day — mostly for reading short stories and articles. It helps me pick up vocabulary in context without feeling like I’m studying.
Recently, I discovered an app called Lingo Champion, and it’s been the perfect complement. I upload the texts I read in Readlang, and it automatically generates audio, so I can listen to native-like reading later. What’s great is that it tracks progress with detailed statistics, and it’s fun to see your improvement in real time.
Uploading content there is really simple — you can paste a YouTube URL, add your own transcript of the video, and start reading right away. If there’s a word you don’t understand, you just select it and the AI translates it instantly. It makes combining reading and listening practice incredibly seamless.
I wonder if anyone else here has tried mixing Readlang with an app for listening practice? I’d love to hear what combos are working for you =)
