Has something changed when saving words in the Word List?

Not so long ago I remember that clicking on several adjacent words would only save the final result in the Word List. Additionally, if I clicked a word a second time, to hide the translation, it would not get saved in the Word List. Now it seems I end up with a huge list of words every time I click something.

Here is an example. Let’s say I see the words "cutting corners”. I will first click on cutting, then I will click on corners. The resulting UI view will be a singular translation of the expression cutting corners, but I end up with 2 entries in the word list:

  • entry 1: cutting
  • entry 2: cutting corners

If I click on the cutting corners expression again, it will disappear from the UI, but the 2 entries will remain in the word list.

Is my memory tricking me or has this always been the case? I often click words I in fact already know but don’t remember in an instant, and I don’t want them added in my word list. It is incredibly annoying to manually remove them from the word list every time.

I’m not sure about the “only save the final result” part, but on the “Aa” tab there is the option about whether clicking to hide a translation deletes the card. It’s “On Deselect Word/Phrase.” Do you have “Delete Flashcard” selected?

After more testing, this only happens when using the web reader browser extension. I made sure to check these settings and they just don’t work anymore.

Merge Phrases: Merge

Deselect Behavior: Delete

Importing the content and reading it in the web app works as intended.

Thanks for reporting this. I’ve managed to reproduce and fix this bug. I’ve submitted the fixed version of the extension (version 0.9.19) to the Chrome and Firefox add-on stores but it may take a day or so before they get approved and published.
