Hands-free vocabulary practice (driving mode)

Hi!

I have an idea that might be useful for many users.

A lot of us spend quite a bit of time driving. Some people listen to music, others listen to podcasts in their target language. But I think podcasts are not always very effective, especially at some levels — they require a lot of focus and active listening.

It would be great to have a hands-free, continuous practice mode in Readlang.

For example:

  • Every ~5 seconds, the system says a word from your word list

  • You try to recall the meaning (or not :slightly_smiling_face:)

  • Then, after a few seconds, it says the translation

This could work as a passive training mode while driving or doing something else.

This mode should not count toward learning progress.

I think this could be a really nice addition for people who want to use otherwise “dead time” more effectively.

What do you think?

If you export your word list from Readlang and import it into Anki, you can set up an Anki deck that speaks the “front” and “back” of the card aloud.

Depending on what platform you use, Anki has an “auto-advance” mode that can go through a deck without interaction from you. If you have it set to speak the front and back of the card, that could probably produce the behavior you want. (Auto-advance is available on desktop and iPhone, but I’m not sure about Android.)
