I’ve really enjoyed the blitz mode for the flashcards. I had a backlog of 6500 words and since mid-December I’ve whittled that down to a thousand. I am on pace to get to zero outstanding cards by the end of the month.
Based on my grinding of these cards for the past few months, I have found the L2->L1 (target language to native) cards to be more useful and would like the option to see only these types of cards in blitz mode, similar to the “passive only” option for regular flashcards.
Here are a couple arguments for why I find L2->L1 cards better for my learning process:

L2->L1 cards simulate the reading process better. The “failure” that generated the card is that I didn’t understand the word when I saw it in context. The flashcard is to help prevent that same failure in the future for that word.

L2->L1 cards provide better context clues. Reading the context sentence is helpful to see which of the L1 translations fit with the overall meaning of the sentence.
With L1->L2 cards, I’m already given the meaning, so the context sentence is of little help. The biggest clue becomes which of the L2 options match the length of the blank space in the context sentence. This clue does not help with comprehension.
