I use Classic Flashcards, Mainly Active Recall, Typing Mode. This is a suggestion which would make that kind of practice less time consuming without losing any of the rigour.
In parley, the spaced-repetition software I’ve used earlier, you were always allowed to change the evaluation after supplying a written answer. This had two advantages:
- you could indicate that a mistake was just a typo
- you could supply empty answer for most words and actually type in the answer only if you were unsure of the spelling
While both of these are useful, I’d be particularly interested in the latter option - Classic flashcards with typing made optional. Sometimes I want to actually force myself to decide which letters are doubled in suunnittelemme and typing the answer somewhere is better than thinking it in my head, but other words are really not that hard and I either remember them or don’t.
I know that in Mastery mode, you can make a similar choice the first time you see a flashcard, but I prefer the Classic flashcards because they give me a chance to go through multiple contexts of a word and there’s access to the full card-editing interface; plus, I actually like being able to choose between typing and recognition every time I see the card, not just once for all future revisions.
I imagine it could also be implemented so that the cards themselves are in a recognition/non-typing mode but there is an input field somewhere at the bottom of the page where I could type in the answer on the rare occasion that I actually want to.
