Editing translations on source page when adding

I’ve searched for how to edit translations when adding them to Readlang from their source webpage, but can’t find anything. This is my major pain point.

When I’m reading a webpage and select a word or phrase, if the translation is incorrect or misleading, I want to be able to change it (and even add a note) without having to click multiple times to open the Readlang interface, which I find really awkward (at least the only way I know how to do it.)

In other words, I’d like to be able to select a word or phrase on the webpage where it occurs, see the translation and, if it’s not quite right, edit it immediately – without having to navigate to the Readlang wordlist in another tab.

It seems like this would be a popular request, which leads me to believe my workflow is wrong or I’m missing something. Can someone point me in the right direction?

You are correct that this is currently a limitation of the Web Reader extension. You currently need to open the Word List on readlang.com in order to edit words.

Another option is to use the “Import to Readlang” option from the Web Reader to read the article on readlang.com, where you have a more complete set of tools. But obviously you’ll lose some of the richness of the original webpage if you do this. (Sometimes that can be an advantage for long passages of text, but sometimes you also want the images which you will end up losing if you import)

Thanks for the info and suggestion.

I think the Import option will probably work best. I’ve avoided that since I read a lot of one-off sources that I don’t want to clutter up the Readlang library with. Of course I can just delete the source after importing, but then the link to the source in the saved word will be broken.

I’ll figure something out. Thank you again.
