The existing Ask AI function is amazing and the main reason I subscribed. What would make it even better is the option to instruct the AI on how to explain selected words.

For example, I always want to see all verb conjugations when I click on a verb. It would save me some time if I could instruct the AI to always provide the conjugations as part of the explanation for verbs, and have that included in the query automatically. At the moment I have to first select a word, wait for the AI to give its explanation, then always ask a follow-up to see all the conjugations.

Yes, it’s interesting that sometimes the AI will “of its own volition” tell me a verb’s infinitive and how it has been conjugated in this particular case, but only sometimes. I’d love to make it do that all the time.
And likewise, another good use of custom AI here is, when possible, to relate a word to other words I am studying (or maybe even words I have seen and am assumed to know – don’t know if readlang keeps track of that like lingq does, or just words that I add). One example would be etymology (common things I sometimes recognize include diminutives, verb forms of nouns, etc.), and another would by synonyms.

Aye, I’d love that too; esp as long instructions are kind of bugged out as I can’t pin them.

My go to is

  1. Analyse grammaticale : Indique la catégorie grammaticale (nom, verbe, adjectif, etc.) et, pour les verbes, précise l’infinitif, le temps, le mode, la personne et le nombre.

  2. Conjugaison : Si le mot est une forme verbale, présente sa conjugaison complète dans les principaux temps (présent, imparfait, passé composé, futur simple, conditionnel présent, subjonctif présent).

  3. Étymologie : Donne une brève origine du mot, en mentionnant ses racines latines, grecques ou autres, et son évolution sémantique si pertinent.

  4. Synonymes et antonymes : Propose des synonymes et antonymes courants, en précisant les nuances d’usage et les registres de langue (familier, soutenu, argotique, etc.).

  5. Exemples contextuels : Fournis des phrases exemples illustrant l’usage du mot dans différents contextes, en mettant en évidence les constructions idiomatiques ou les collocations fréquentes.

  6. Remarques culturelles ou stylistiques : Ajoute des informations sur l’usage du mot dans la littérature, les expressions populaires, ou des particularités régionales si applicable.

Adopte un ton naturel, fluide et adapté à un lecteur francophone de niveau C2, en veillant à la clarté et à la concision des explications.
