Ability to see whole sentence translated

It would be great to be able to see the whole sentence translated by chat gpt. LingQ does this, and I find myself using LingQ even though I’d much rather use Readlang b/c I sometimes “miss” the point of the sentence in French, even though I understand the individual bits. So I end up copy/pasting to an LLM or just using LingQ instead. Please help. Would be amazing if it just poppoed up to the side or something like that.

I’m not sure if you know, but if you have premium, you can go to the bottom of your settings and turn on “Ask AI.” This gives you an LLM prompt on the Explain tab. You could for example click on a word in the sentence, and then ask what the sentence means.

Yes I do - I tried that but for longer sentences or sentences cropped with a “-” it doesn’t work properly. Many long french sentences have lots of “-” so it’s kind of a problem!

I’d also enjoy such a feature. Even though Language Reactor has the problem of losing context between sentences, this is one area where it works really well. You can get a sentence-by-sentence view of a text, hover over the side of the sentence to get a sentence translation or click single words.

I think Steve explained somewhere that the reader page code is quite complex and this would be tricky to implement, but I suspect there are other features where being able to access an entire sentence programmatically would pay off.

The trick I use to get around this is to click past the end of a sentence (then a normal browser selection is possible, not Readlang’s word selection). Then I can select the whole sentence and send it to Kagi Translate (there’s an extension) via right-click for translation.
