So, I’m learning Norwegian, and as it stands right now, the AI voice gets many of the pronunciations incorrect when spoken. This is kind of understandable because written Norwegian is so different from spoken, but it would be nice if a field were present something like “pronunciation key” and by default it would copy the word as it was written initially when the word was added, but allowing you to write something else in the pronunciation key. This would be for allowing it to display the word as it’s supposed to be written, but pronounce it differently.
Sorry the voice isn’t great for Norwegian. Just to clarify, are you talking about the voice which speaks the word or phrase you clicked to translate and the word you are practicing in a practice session? (I ask because this voice is different from the voice which reads whole texts aloud)
Yeah, I mean the one that reads the words I click on. Thanks for looking into it. I love this site, by the way! Thank you for all the work you’ve done!
I’ve just updated Readlang to try a different Norwegian voice. Please let me know if you think it’s better or not.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Hey thanks for trying, I’ve been sick so I haven’t been able to really do any practicing, but I tried it out today, and I feel the new voice, unfortunately, is much worse in regards to mispronunciations and feels a bit more robotic compared to the previous voice. ![]()
Yeah, I think I’d prefer it to go back to the original voice, if that’s still possible. Thank you!
I’ve now switched it back.
There is one more Norwegian voice available. I won’t switch to it proactively though just in case. It’s the male voice called Finn and you can find an example of it here if you filter by Language: Norwegian: Speech Studio
I checked out the Finn voice, it sounds pretty convincing, but I think I’m happy with the voice it is now, even if it does get a few things wrong
Thank you!
