I tried this directive and AI didn’t recognize the story. Maybe it only works for premium plus subscribers.
Hmm. I don’t have Plus. I was able to get “a fairy tale involving gnomes, avoiding use of passé simple” to go through, but on reading the text, it didn’t actually avoid passé simple…
It still didn’t work unfortunately. Thank you very much.
I found a solution. I had Chatgpt change the parts written in passé simple.
There’s no difference to the story bot for Premuim vs Premium Plus at the moment.
It sounds to me like @tulincaglars has “Classic Fiction” selected as the genre and perhaps @M_C has a different genre like “Original Fiction” which doesn’t have the same check to test that it’s a known story name.
Thanks for the feedback about wanting to customise the tenses used.

Love this story generator feature and use it daily. Thank you! The only feature I’d really want to see, and not sure if this is possible, is a “Surprise Me” style link, that works like Wikipedia:Random to generate either a summary story or a biography of historically or culturally significant person or event.
Would be an easy way to get new at level reading content each day, but also to learn about a wide variety of interesting new things I otherwise might not be aware of.

Just tried out the Story Bot for the first time to create two non-fiction stories. Set the language to Spanish, reading level: intermediate. The first story came out in English, second in Spanish, and both had level C2… 
Most feedback I read here on the story bot was pretty good, so maybe I was just unlucky?
Sorry about that. It certainly isn’t perfect. The story coming out in the wrong language has happened before but I don’t think it’s common. I wonder if the advanced language might have been something to do with your proposed topic which led it to sound more academic. Can you remember the exact topic you entered?
Note that the A1-C2 CEFR ratings that Readlang gives are only very rough guides and not that precise or reliable.
No worries Steve, this feature isn’t a staple for me. Was just having some fun with it.
Yeah, I entered: “innovation and the future of language education” (turned to English story) and for the second: “innovation in language education” (story in Spanish).
Funily enough, the English story did have a lot of Spanish story elements, like it started off in Madrid, at the ‘Instituto de Innovación Lingüística’ (doesn’t exist to my knowledge) and it had several Spanish/Latin American cultural references.
